I currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Transport Manager to join a leading food and drink distributor at their site in Bedford. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong transport professional to step into a key leadership role within a well-established and growing business.
The Role
The Transport Manager will be responsible for managing transport operations, leading the team and ensuring full compliance across the fleet. This is a hands-on role with accountability for people, vehicles and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the transport team, including recruitment, training, and performance management
- Oversee daily transport operations to ensure efficiency, service levels, and compliance
- Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, operator licence requirements, and health & safety standards
- Manage the commercial vehicle fleet, including servicing, MOTs, inspections, and repairs
- Oversee pallet and cage control
- Manage incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions
- Monitor performance, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Strong transport management experience is essential
- Proven knowledge of transport compliance, legislation, and health & safety
- Experience leading and managing teams
- Experience within foodservice transport would be advantageous
- CPC qualification desirable but not essential
- Organised, proactive, and confident working in a fast-paced transport environment
