Senior Commercial & Legal Manager

About the Role
A respected engineering group is looking to appoint a Senior Commercial & Legal Manager as part of their growth plans.
This role is designed to take the pressure off the Managing Director by owning key legal, contractual, and risk areas across live engineering projects.
You’ll play a critical part in shaping commercial outcomes on multi-million-pound installations, managing project risk, and building scalable systems as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll take charge of contracts, legal risk, pricing models, and margin protection—working closely with both the project and leadership teams to strengthen commercial performance.
Legal & Contracts
- Lead client and supplier contract negotiations
- Draft and review bespoke agreements and terms
- Manage legal risk across all stages of engineering delivery
- Embed strong exit strategies into commercial agreements
Commercial Oversight
- Define commercial processes from quote to final handover
- Safeguard margins and build in cost flexibility
- Guide pricing strategy and cost tracking
- Develop tools for approvals and project variations
Project Risk
- Own risk across project lifecycle, especially installations
- Support teams in spotting early commercial or legal risks
- Review tender documentation and client terms
Health & Safety
- Oversee internal H&S function (supported by H&S Manager)
- Ensure compliance and represent the business externally
HR & Culture
- Liaise with HR advisors on compliance, hiring, and ER
- Manage recruitment across engineering and commercial teams
Business Improvement
- Support MD and functional heads on operational changes
- Contribute to new venture launches
- Implement tools and systems that support scalability
What You’ll Need:
- Strong commercial experience in engineering environments
- Ability to manage contract terms and negotiate risk
- Hands-on approach—willing to work closely with project teams
- Track record of guiding contracts from bid to handover
- Credibility with technical staff and external clients
- Process mindset and ability to build in structure and control
