A leading European manufacturer of vehicle-based equipment is looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of current and future product platforms. The business designs and manufactures a wide range of products including trailers, vehicle bodies, and specialist transport equipment, operating from well-established engineering and manufacturing facilities across North Wales.

The Role
Reporting to the Head of Design, you’ll take a lead role in the design and development of mechanical structures and vehicle systems, supporting both new product development and continuous improvement of existing platforms. You’ll work closely with manufacturing, testing and purchasing teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable and fit for purpose.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading design of chassis, suspension systems, axles, hydraulics and mechanical assemblies
- Producing 3D models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
- Carrying out engineering calculations (beam bending, load analysis, structural verification)
- Supporting prototype builds, testing and validation
- Managing Bills of Materials (BoM) and engineering documentation
- Ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards and regulations
- Supporting engineering change and continuous improvement
- Collaborating with manufacturing to ensure design for manufacture (DFM)
What They’re Looking For
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Strong SolidWorks design and detailing experience
- Experience designing fabricated structures / heavy mechanical assemblies
- Strong hands-on engineering mindset with calculation capability
- Experience with structural analysis (beam bending, load calculations)
- Background supporting prototyping and testing
Highly Desirable
- Experience in any of the following: Automotive / Off-highway / Agricultural machinery
- Trailers, transport equipment or vehicle systems
- Chassis or suspension design
- Welded fabrication and structural assemblies
