We are seeking a practical Product Design Engineer to join a growing design function within a well-established manufacturing business. The role will focus on the design and development of FMCG, taking concepts from initial idea through to tooling, manufacture and commissioning. You will work closely with customers, tooling partners and internal manufacturing teams. Following recent acquisition by a larger group, there are clear plans to develop the business, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, creativity and hands-on engineering. This role will suit someone comfortable rolling their sleeves up and owning the full process.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop products for food applications
- Create 3D models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks (Inventor also considered)
- Support the transition from approved design to tool manufacture, sampling and commissioning
- Work directly with customers, including occasional visits to blue-chip clients
- Produce 3D renders and presentation material for internal and customer use
- Assist with CNC programming, setup or workshop activity where required – ideal
- Collaborate with external toolmakers and internal manufacturing teams
- Maintain accurate design documentation and change control
- Contribute to future innovation and product development initiatives across the wider group
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience in Product/Industrial Design
- Strong 3D CAD capability – SolidWorks preferred
- Understanding of manufacturing-led design and real-world constraints
- Comfortable taking designs from concept through to production
- Hands-on, practical mindset – willing to support workshop or tooling activity
- Good communication skills with the confidence to engage customers
- Ability to work independently within a small, agile team
Desirable Experience
- Experience with tooling design or working closely with toolmakers
- Exposure to CNC programming or CAM systems
- Experience creating visual content (3D renders, PowerPoint presentations)
