An established engineering business is looking to recruit a Lead Design Engineer to take ownership of design deliverables across a range of complex mechanical handling projects. This role would suit someone with strong design experience looking for a next step up or someone senior who is keen for a new challenge.
The Role
- Lead the design and development of equipment and systems from concept through to manufacture
- Oversee 3D models, technical drawings, and design documentation
- Coordinate design reviews and manage technical interfaces across projects
- Ensure all outputs meet industry standards, project specifications, and quality requirements
- Support and mentor Design Engineers within the team
- Carry out site visits and surveys when required
- Drive improvements around safety, DfMA, standardisation, and value engineering
What They’re Looking For
- HNC, Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Strong background in bulk material handling, conveyors or machinery
- Experience using Autodesk Inventor and PDM systems (or Similar)
- Good understanding of BS 8888 and manufacturing processes linked to heavy fabrication
- Confident leading projects and checking technical documentation
- Able to manage workloads across multiple projects and support junior engineers
