About the business: The company is a long-established engineering and manufacturing business supplying precision engineered solutions to customers across multiple industries. The business combines strong technical capability with a practical, hands-on approach to manufacturing and supply chain management. This role sits within the Operations team and reports directly to the Head of Planning and Supply Chain.
The Role: This is a hands-on buying role supporting production across a busy manufacturing environment. You’ll work closely with suppliers, engineering, production, finance, and quality teams to make sure materials and services arrive on time, at the right cost, and to the required standard.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage supplier pricing, lead times, and purchasing activity
- Raise and process purchase orders within SAP
- Expedite orders where required
- Support supplier negotiations on cost, lead times, and payment terms
- Identify new suppliers and outsourcing opportunities
- Support engineering and production teams with new product and cost reduction projects
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve quality issues
- Maintain supplier records and documentation
- Support preparation work ahead of a new ERP system rollout
- Visit suppliers when required
What We’re Looking For:
- Previous experience in a buying or purchasing role.
- Manufacturing or engineering environment experience preferred.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Comfortable working to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Good Excel skills.
- Experience using ERP systems.
- CIPS qualification preferred.
- Engineering background advantageous.
What Success Looks Like: In your first 12 months, you will:
- Build strong working relationships with key suppliers
- Improve supplier lead time visibility and reporting
- Support production by reducing supply issues and delays
