We are working with a well-established advanced manufacturing business operating across aerospace and defence programmes, seeking a technically strong Project Engineer / Junior Project Manager to support fast-paced, multi-level manufacturing assemblies. This role bridges the gap between Project Engineering and Project Management, ideal for someone from a mechanical engineering background who enjoys being hands-on, customer-facing, and delivery-focused - without the need for heavy project governance or advanced PFMEA ownership.
You will play a central role in managing orderbooks, coordinating engineering-related activities, and acting as a key interface between customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities- Project Delivery & Coordination
- Manage and maintain customer and internal orderbooks, ensuring accuracy and on-time delivery
- Support project planning, scheduling, and full project lifecycle delivery
- Coordinate activities across engineering, supply chain, production, and customers
- Maintain SAP data integrity, including delivery status and workability updates
- Support projects from initiation through to delivery and close-out
- Stakeholder & Customer Management
- Act as a key customer-facing contact for project updates, queries, and issue resolution
- Build strong, professional customer relationships through clear and confident communication
- Liaise with suppliers to manage progress, risks, and bottlenecks
- Represent the business in meetings where required
- Risk, Change & Reporting
- Identify risks, constraints, or delays and proactively propose mitigation actions
- Support engineering change requests with strong understanding of mechanical drawings and assembly processes
- Conduct contract and order reviews to ensure requirements are met
- Track KPIs including delivery, schedule adherence, and project performance
- Support continuous improvement and project process optimisation
- Technical & Industry Background
- Ideally from an Aerospace, Automation or Defence environment
- Mechanical engineering background with experience supporting machinery or complex assemblies
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (title block minimum; assembly understanding advantageous)
- Experience managing projects through the full lifecycle, from order to delivery
- Understanding of manufacturing, assembly, and engineering change processes
- SAP experience highly desirable
- Project & Professional Skills
- Background in project coordination, project engineering, or delivery-focused project roles
- Experience with MS Project is desirable
- Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving capability
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance detail and big-picture delivery
- Confident, credible customer-facing professional
- Resilient, proactive, and comfortable working under time pressure
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step up in project responsibility, gain exposure to complex aerospace and defence engineering programmes, and work closely with customers and manufacturing teams.
