The Opportunity
We are looking for a Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering business specialising in bespoke automation machinery, conveyors, lifting and handling equipment, crane systems and material manipulation solutions.
Working as part of design team, you'll play a key role in delivering bespoke mechanical design projects from concept through to manufacture and installation. This is a hands-on engineering position where you'll work closely with production and installation teams to ensure practical, manufacturable solutions are delivered to customers.
This role would suit an engineer with around four or more years' experience in lifting and handling or special purpose machinery who is looking to further develop their career within a supportive engineering environment.
The Role
- Designing bespoke automation machinery, conveyors, lifting and handling equipment and crane systems.
- Producing detailed 3D mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
- Creating 2D layouts, site drawings and cut profiles using AutoCAD.
- Working closely with production and installation teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
- Conducting site surveys as part of project delivery (typically every 2-3 months).
- Supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture and installation.
- Collaborating with both office-based and remote members of the design team.
What We're Looking For
- Around 4+ years' experience within lifting and handling equipment, special purpose machinery or similar mechanical engineering sectors.
- A strong hands-on mechanical engineering background.
- Experience designing bespoke mechanical equipment.
- Strong SolidWorks experience (Solid Edge or Inventor experience will also be considered).
- AutoCAD experience producing 2D layouts and manufacturing drawings.
- An HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience).
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to attend customer sites for surveys when required.

Salary & Benefits
