The Role: The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role within the Building Services design team, leading mechanical engineering activities across various projects. This includes everything from concept design and estimating to detailed design and project support. The role will involve working closely with sales, project teams, and site engineers to ensure successful project delivery, from RIBA Stage 2 through to Stage 6.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing feasibility studies, concept designs, and detailed mechanical designs
- Surveying sites and assessing existing building services systems
- Preparing specifications, and tender documentation
- Calculating HVAC loads, flow rates, pipe sizing, and energy consumption
- Collaborating with controls engineers on control philosophies and descriptions of operation
- Managing mechanical design within agreed budgets
- Producing equipment schedules, selections, and supplier quotations
- Attending client and internal meetings, providing technical input
- Supporting site operations and resolving mechanical issues during installation
- Contributing to O&M documentation and post-project evaluations
The Person: The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of an HNC in Building Services or a related discipline
- At least 2 years of experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer within the building services industry
- Experience using AutoCAD and Revit (advantageous)
- Knowledge of heating design and calculations would be a huge benefit
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
- A full UK driving licence
