Draughtsman – Mechanical Design (2D CAD / Fabrication) Location: East Midlands (commutable from Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Mansfield, Newark) Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 (depending on experience) Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time Are you a Mechanical Design Draughtsperson looking to work on bespoke, technically varied engineering projects within a specialist team? Do you enjoy taking a concept and tailoring it to fit real-world customer specifications? We’re working with an established manufacturing business that specialises in the design and build of safety-critical engineering solutions. Due to a recent internal move, the business is now looking to appoint a Draughtsman to join its design team, supporting on a range of customer-led projects from start to finish. The Role: This is not a high-volume drawing office – the work is project-based, hands-on, and varied. You’ll take standard products and reconfigure them based on each client\’s needs, often liaising with internal production teams and occasionally attending customer sites to assess requirements. Key Responsibilities: * Producing detailed 2D mechanical drawings using Autodesk Inventor * Modifying and adapting existing product designs for bespoke projects * Creating material and component lists (BOMs) * Collaborating with production during the build phase * Engaging directly with customers to resolve design challenges * Occasional site visits to review specifications and installations What We’re Looking For: * A background in mechanical engineering (degree, HND/HNC or apprenticeship) * 1–2 years\’ experience in a similar mechanical design/draughting role * Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or similar 2D CAD software * Good understanding of fabrication, steelwork, or structural design * Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset Desirable (but not essential): * Experience working in regulated sectors such as rail, infrastructure, or defence * Exposure to client-facing or site-based work * Understanding of product lifecycle from design through to manufacture What’s on Offer: * Competitive salary between £30,000 – £40,000 (depending on experience) * Monday to Thursday: 07:45 – 16:30, Friday finish at 14:30 * Supportive, collaborative team environment with modern offices * Opportunities for development within a long-established and growing business * Buy and Sell holidays * 28 days holidays rising to 32 with service * Development and safety training certificates Interested?
