A large retailer is now looking for a Transport Manager. Reporting to the Distribution Center Manager, you will be responsible for a fleet of 60 vehicles and 60 drivers. Must have a CPC.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Organising staffing levels to meet business requirements.
  • Organising agency support as necessary.
  • Ensuring legal compliance with regard to road transport and EU drivers hours regulations i.e. tachographs.
  • Completing processing of orders, production of pick lists, dispatch notes, and loading sheets in accordance with depot procedures.
  • Minimising delivery costs through optimized vehicle utilization.
  • Ensuring all vehicle files and service recording is accurate and compliant.
  • Ensuring all drivers and mates are fully inducted into their roles and that training sessions are fully supported, maintaining detailed records and identifying further training/retraining.
  • Ensuring all transport statistics are produced in a timely fashion for internal and external consumption.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for all drivers and mates and ensuring a speedy response and resolution to any issues, referring to the Transport Manager where appropriate.
  • Monitoring and taking appropriate action with regard to absence management.
  • Acting as a role model to the Depot by supporting the Distribution Manager in other tasks as required.

  • You will come from a distribution and transport background, ideally with load planning experience.
  • You will be comfortable with numerical data and be able to efficiently gather and analyze transport information.
  • You will have excellent customer service skills and the ability to work alongside the transport crew and act as the first point of contact to resolve issues.
  • As a skilled problem solver, you will always be thinking ahead, looking for improvements.
  • You will have a proactive and positive approach and step up to support at management level as required.
