Our Business Development & Marketing team plays a critical role in enhancing the Firm's reputation, expanding its client base and driving revenue growth. This team develops and implements strategic marketing plans to promote the Firm's legal services, leveraging digital and traditional marketing channels to reach target audiences. They conduct market research to identify industry trends and client needs, positioning the Firm competitively within the legal marketplace. The team also manages client relationships, orchestrates business development initiatives, and seeks opportunities for partnerships and networking. Through compelling content creation, event planning and public relations efforts, they ensure that the Firm maintains a strong market presence and continues to attract and retain clients.

The Manager, Business Development, Global Clients & Industries, is responsible for the effective execution of industry-led business development activities. This role is specifically aligned with our Private Capital Industry Group. The role supports the cultivation of relationships with established clients, analyses market, client, and competitor insight to identify revenue opportunities for the Firm, and coordinates delivery of Industry Group initiatives across practices and regions.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Strategic planning
    • Support delivery of business development initiatives focused on increasing client engagement, revenue growth, and cross-practice collaboration, in line with the Private Capital Industry Group business plan and broader Firm strategy.
    • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the private capital industry, its key markets, client types, and the Firm's value proposition and service offerings relevant to those clients.
    • Translate industry insight into practical recommendations to support business development initiatives and client engagement.
  • Client cultivation
    • Support cultivation of relationships with established clients through client planning, engagement tracking, and coordination.
    • Work with Global Strategic Client BD teams to align Industry Group initiatives with strategic client priorities.
    • Support identification of cross-practice opportunities to deepen client relationships.
  • Market positioning and brand building
    • Create, maintain, and socialise Industry Group marketing collateral and credentials, ensuring materials are current and readily available.
    • Curate and track experience, with a focus on cross-practice and/or niche, industry-specific experience.
    • Support thought leadership initiatives aligned to market developments, including coordination of internal contributions.
    • Support coordination of industry events, client trainings, and conferences in collaboration with Events and Communications teams.
    • Support delivery of go-to-market initiatives and campaigns in collaboration with Marketing & Communications, Content, and Paid Media teams.
    • Assist with industry-focused pitches, proposals, and RFPs, ensuring relevant industry positioning.
    • Assist with awards, rankings, and directory submissions, including coordination of inputs and supporting materials.
  • Cross-practice & stakeholder collaboration
    • Support business development initiatives for Industry Group sub-groups or working groups.
    • Support internal training and upskilling initiatives to enhance lawyers' understanding of industry trends and client issues.
    • Coordinate internal Industry Group meetings and support preparation of internal communications and updates.
    • Lead associate engagement initiatives for the industry group.
    • Build strong working relationships across Business Services teams to support delivery of Industry Group priorities.
  • Performance and reporting
    • Support Private Capital Industry Group initiative to modernise private capital data and analytics; drive efforts to better leverage data for concrete business development applications such as pipeline development.
    • Track and report on industry BD activity, client engagement, and pipeline progress.
    • Support continuous improvement of BD processes and ways of working.
    • Ensure compliance with Firm systems, policies, and reporting standards.

Essential Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; relevant professional qualifications an advantage.
  • Experience delivering business development or marketing activities within a professional services environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyse insight and data and translate it into practical business development support.
  • Clear and effective communication skills and a collaborative working style.

Location and Reporting

This is a full-time role based in London. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Business Development, Global Clients & Industries (Private Capital Industry Group), based in New York. Our standard office hours are 09:30-18:00, with a current requirement for 4 days in the office per week.
