Are you ready to make your mark as part of our Practice Solutions team in our London Office? The Researcher in our London office collaborates with colleagues across the global Research & Market Intelligence team to provide substantive research and insights for client work and business development efforts, demonstrating specialized knowledge and research expertise to support the London office and global practices. The Researcher participates in broader department strategic initiatives and may lead project teams, train and mentor colleagues, and triage research requests as needed. Expectations for the role include traditional legal research to support on matters, strategic research related to markets, industries, and competitors, as well as coordinating and conducting lawyer training on research tools and methodology.

The global Research & Market Intelligence team delivers research to support client work and matters and to help you learn more about existing or prospective clients and industries. The team also works to ensure that we have the optimal selection of research tools and expertise to help build and sustain the Firm’s practices. Our goal is to provide research support to help you meet unique and complex client and practice needs across the globe.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs substantive research using online and print information to support local and global practices.
  • Provides competitive intelligence and background research on current or potential clients and markets in support of business and client development efforts.
  • Proactively and independently assesses research requests to ensure that the research meets stated and anticipated needs.
  • Educates lawyers and staff on research resources and methodology, and ensures effective promotion of research services to attorneys and legal staff.
  • Conduct onboarding for new lawyers and Business Services team members, plus additional training where necessary.
  • Use current awareness tools such as Vable, Lexis+, or Newsdesk to create newsletters and alerts for ongoing monitoring of clients, industries and events.
  • Participate in evaluating and developing the research collection and piloting new services, including generative AI tools and other AI technologies.
  • Incorporate Generative AI into daily work as appropriate and trains or advises lawyers and others on Generative AI services.
  • Provide research content for the London intranet site.
  • Ensure that library and research services are effectively promoted throughout the office.
  • Participate in evaluating and developing the research collection and piloting new services.
  • Ensure continuing professional development and stay abreast of the legal industry.
  • Provide cross-training and mentoring to colleagues in other offices.
  • Triage ready-reference requests to Manila team members, where appropriate, while focusing on more complex, high-level queries.
  • Participate in various internal projects as requested by supervisors.
  • Collaborate with other Marketing, Business Development, and Knowledge teams to provide support to the London office.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Five or more years of broad research experience required, plus Master’s degree in Library Science, law degree or other relevant advanced degree strongly preferred, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Successful candidates may have prior experience from fields including, but not limited to, law firms, investment banking, consulting, accounting, and journalism.

Location & Reporting

This role is based in our London office, and reports into the Manager, Research & Market Intelligence – EMEA. Our standard office hours are 09:30-18:00, with a current requirement for 3 days in the office per week. This will go to 4 days in the office (Monday – Thursday) from March 2026.
