Our Business Development & Marketing team plays a critical role in enhancing the Firm's reputation, expanding its client base and driving revenue growth. This team develops and implements strategic marketing plans to promote the Firm's legal services, leveraging digital and traditional marketing channels to reach target audiences. They conduct market research to identify industry trends and client needs, positioning the Firm competitively within the legal marketplace. The team also manages client relationships, orchestrates business development initiatives, and seeks opportunities for partnerships and networking. Through compelling content creation, event planning and public relations efforts, they ensure that the Firm maintains a strong market presence and continues to attract and retain clients.
The Specialist, Marketing & BD Operations, plays a key role within the M&BD Operations team, which enables the wider Marketing & Business Development function to operate efficiently, consistently and at scale, and deliver against its goals and strategic priorities. Working under the guidance of Managers and Senior team members, the Specialist provides high quality operational, analytical and domainâled support across core M&BD processes â such as client cultivation, matter capture, legal directory and awards submissions, pitching and league table reporting â helping to ensure that work is delivered smoothly, accurately, on time and in line with firm standards.
In addition to dayâtoâday operational delivery, the Specialist builds, reinforces and embeds domain expertise within the M&BD Operations team. The role applies specialist knowledge of M&BD methodologies, tools and best practices to improve quality, consistency and efficiency across M&BD operations. The Specialist will help to drive and deliver projects, taking ownership of defined M&BD Operations projects and contributing to crossâfunctional initiatives, supporting the delivery of process improvements, system enhancements and new ways of working. Through mentoring and coaching, the specialist also supports the development of coordinators and junior colleagues to raise overall capability and quality within the team. Through continuous development of domain expertise and impactful use of data, tools and technology we expect, over time, that the scope of capabilities and responsibilities will evolve to support our broader marketing organization and teams. A curious mind, strong attention to detail, and the desire to solve problems and improve how work is done are critical for success in this role.
Strategic Planning and Client Cultivation
- Take ownership of gathering and organizing research on key clients, prospects, and industry trends to support strategic planning and client targeting efforts.
- Maintain and update client lists, contact databases, and records of client interactions to ensure accurate information is available for planning, tracking, outreach and reporting.
- Support the scheduling and logistics of client meetings, events, and followâup activities.
- Support the coordination of client feedback activities, including scheduling, materials preparation and tracking.
- Apply domain expertise to interpret research outputs and highlight implications for BD activity.
- Act as a subjectâmatter resource for CRM data quality and usage, supporting adherence to agreed standards and processes.
Proposals and Pitch Excellence
- Lead the preparation and coordination of pitches, proposals and capability statements, including collecting bios, deal lists, and other supporting materials.
- Maintain and improve pitch templates and standard materials to ensure consistency and quality and that templates and standardized documents are up to date and accessible for the team.
- Take ownership of the coordination deadlines, document formatting, and the submission process for proposals and pitches.
- Ensure pitch outcomes and credentials data are accurately captured and maintained in a timely manner, supporting continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance to coordinators on pitch and credentials processes and quality standards.
Positioning Practices & Partners
- Responsible for drafting of submissions for legal directories (e.g. Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, etc.) and award entries, by research and assistance on submission preparation and gathering of client referees from our partners.
- Take ownership of tracking logs for submissions, deadlines and outcomes to ensure timely completion and logging.
- Responsible for repositories for rankings, awards and related materials ensuring data quality and consistency.
- Support processes to help strengthen / enhance brand strength and data integrity in line with firm requirements.
- Assist in the development and coordination of rankings, awards and other external submission processes to support brand building activities.
CrossâFunctional Collaboration and Project Delivery
- Play an active role in the delivery of M&BD Operations projects, including process improvements, system enhancements and new capability rollâouts.
- Collaborate with other M&BD teams to deliver integrated initiatives.
- Act as a key operational and domain point of contact on crossâfunctional projects, supporting analysis, coordination and implementation.
- Proactively share best practices and contribute to continuous improvement across M&BD Operations and global function.
- Provide technical, domain or process expertise to the M&BD Operations team, reinforcing standards and ways of working.
- Mentor and support coordinators and junior team members, helping to build confidence, capability and consistency.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing documentation and training materials within the Operations team.
Performance and Impact
- Track and update key metrics and activity logs, supporting the team's ability to monitor progress and report on outcomes.
- Assist in the preparation of regular reports and summaries for leadership and team meetings.
- Ensure all records and documentation are accurate, up to date, and compliant with firm standards.
- Support maintenance of calendars and planning tools for the M&BD function.
Essential Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience; professional certification an advantage where appropriate.
- Understanding of how M&BD Operations enables our teams to deliver against our firm / functional strategies.
- Demonstrated specialist experience and expertise in one or more M&BD disciplines e.g., research, client cultivation, strategy and planning, pitching support, market analysis, CRM, reporting / performance management, submissions and brand building), with strong knowledge of BD tools, methodologies, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed research and analysis, investigate issues, and develop practical solutions within defined scope, and translate findings into practical outputs.
- Strong analytical, problemâsolving, and attentionâtoâdetail skills, ensuring accuracy and consistency in BD outputs.
- Good understanding of how BD activities support practice group and firm objectives, and how BD collaborates with other business services.
- Clear and effective communication skills, enabling collaboration with BD colleagues and accurate information sharing with stakeholders as required.
- Ability to manage workload effectively, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a teamâbased, fastâpaced environment.
