The Marketing and Business Development (BD) function at White & Case is a global team of professionals dedicated to supporting the firm’s growth and reputation. Organised by practice, industry, and strategic client BD, the team covers all aspects of marketing and business development, including marketing communications, events, creative services, press relations, marketing technology, and a centralised team of coordinators and pitch specialists. We work collaboratively across the firm to deliver effective campaigns, build client relationships, and support our lawyers in winning new business.

Leading the business development support for the EMEA Energy, Infrastructure, Project & Asset Finance (EIPAF) practice. This role is responsible for helping the partners drive the strategic goals of the practice and specifically, to deliver marketing and business opportunities with existing and new clients; enhancing the image and reputation of the practice; and proactively ensuring information flows within the practice and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with the RSH to help drive the implementation of client and region business plan and related business development initiatives. Also monitoring and reporting on the progress of the business plan.
  • Working with the RSH and support team to lead regional/London wide team meetings and any strategic away days or retreats.
  • Managing and driving the preparation of pitches, proposals, capability statements and other client presentations materials, working in collaboration with partners, associates and trainees.
  • Supporting the partners to develop client relationships, share information and generally raise the practice’s profile across EMEA.
  • Be a key member of the regional team to conduct client feedback.
  • Leading a team of 3 business development professionals in London and dotted line management of others based in other key locations around EMEA.
  • Driving the development and growth EMEA EIPAF team’s ‘priority clients’.
  • Seeking opportunities to cross-sell the practice both with the EIPAF group, but also across sections in EMEA and regionally across the network.
  • Playing a lead role in organising and implementing thought leadership projects at the regional or global level.
  • Ensuring first class Business Development Infrastructure is in place and efficient systems exist to capture data.
  • Help to generate and have overall responsibility to organise client relationship development activities and touchpoints including seminars, conferences and events.
  • Overseeing best practice on all relevant directory submissions (Legal 500, Chambers & Partners) and award entries.
  • Be a member of the firm’s global senior BD team and take responsibility for leading key cross practice projects.
  • Liaising with the central marketing team in London, and with international marketing colleagues, to contribute to local and global BD and communications initiatives.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent; relevant marketing qualification (e.g. CIM) is desirable.
  • Proven track record of business development experience in a professional services firm or financial institution, preferably with related business development experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant practice areas, sectors, and products.
  • Experience of managing teams and working in an international environment.
  • Strong client-focused approach, with a responsive and positive attitude.
  • Creative mindset, bringing new ideas to the table.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage and deliver pitches and proposals.
  • Proficient in systems and database skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM applications.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, showing initiative.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Location and Reporting

This role is based in London, and reports into the Global Director of Business Development, EIPAF, but is accountable to, and works alongside the Regional Section Head, EMEA EIPAF. Our standard office hours are 09:30-18:00, with a current requirement for 3 days in the office per week.
