Associate Director - Geotechnics

Overview

We are seeking a self‑motivated geotechnics Associate Director to join our busy London studio. The role includes technical and financial responsibility for multiple projects, managing a team of technical people, and participating in senior management team activities.

Whitby Wood works on a wide range of project typologies and scales across the UK and internationally. We look for an individual who can drive projects on their own initiative while collaborating effectively with a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical and financial work across multiple geotechnical projects.
• Manage and develop a team of technical professionals.
• Participate actively in senior management discussions and decisions.
• Drive business development efforts and contribute to project growth.
• Maintain best practice in ground engineering and stay updated on industry market conditions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering discipline.
• Chartered status with ICE, GSL, or IOM3.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with initiative and leadership.
• Proven track record of delivering completed projects.
• Self‑motivation and team management capability.
