Assistant Accountant
Based: Manchester Centre (4 days office, 1 home)
Salary: up to Β£35k + benefits including bonus, private medical insurance, paid sabbatical after 5 years service, EV car scheme and much more
Whitaker Smith are exclusively working with an interesting and progressive services business based in the heart of Manchester. Their values underpin everything they do and with exciting plans to continue growing through 2026/2027 we are looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their team. This role will report directly to the Finance Manager providing wider support to finance and stakeholders across the business
Role:
- Preparing, analysing and presenting financial information to the CFO and Finance Manager.
- Quarterly and monthly reporting, data analysis and reconciliations
- Supporting preparation of statutory accounts and audit for all business entities
- Assisting with producing monthly management accounts alongside the Finance Manager and the month end pack for Directors
- Reconciling company cashbooks, processing expenses & reports, reconciling credit card statements
- Overseeing both accounts receivable and payable functions and duties, obtaining internal approval when required
- Monitoring accounts inbox, dealing with queries in a timely manner
- Preparing payment runs and ad-hoc payment processing on request
- Preparing quarterly VAT returns
- Supporting Finance Manager and CFO with ad-hoc requests
Experience:
- AAT qualified essential
- Strong communication skills, able to communicate with senior directors well
- VAT experience essential
- Audit/statutory accounts support highly desirable
- Strong Excel skills (Lookups, pivots)
- Strong organisation skills and thriving in a fast paced environment
- Experience from a professional/corporate environment essential
