This role offers a competitive package, hybrid working (1 day a week in the London office, typically Thursday), 28 days holiday a year plus Bank Holidays and 11% pension from the second year! Salary £84,000 - £97,000 Location: London/Hybrid (1 day a week in the London office, typically Thursday).

About the role: We are looking for an experienced technical leader, team leader and people manager to co-lead a cross functional, mission oriented product squad alongside a Product Manager and Design Lead. This hybrid role is perfect for people wishing to remain close to delivery, love building high performing teams and staying close to technology with an element of hands-on contribution (~30-40% of time).

Primary responsibilities will be:

  • Team Leadership: Working as part of a "product trio" alongside a Product Manager and Design Lead you will collectively establish a Product Vision for your domain and a strategy to bring your vision to life. You will set ambitious OKRs for your team and own delivery of impact.
  • Tech Leadership: Work with engineers to establish a technical vision and strategy that enables (and in some cases informs) the product vision. Guide the team to make good technical decisions that are aligned with squad objectives and longer term ambition. Able to operate hands-on at a Senior Engineer level and set the bar for engineering excellence, whilst appreciating that the primary role is to build a great team and support engineers to succeed.
  • People Management: You will support up to 7 engineers in the following areas: understanding challenges and providing support, seeking and giving feedback, establishing plans for professional and career growth and pastoral care.
  • AI-Native Engineering: You will champion the use of agentic workflows to accelerate delivery across the platform. As an AI-fluent leader, you will leverage GitHub Copilot as a primary partner to automate testing, streamline implementation, and minimize cognitive overhead, ensuring your focus remains on solving our most complex architectural and product puzzles.
  • Technical Leadership and Solution Architecture: Lead the technical direction for the AI Squad by owning the solution design and architecture for Ask Which and reusable AI platform capabilities. Guide engineers in delivering high-quality, secure, reliable, and scalable AI solutions, while remaining hands-on with software development where appropriate. Champion cloud-native AWS AI technologies, establish engineering best practices, and drive technical decisions that shape the evolution of Which?'s AI platform.
  • Collaboration: Working with your squad and stakeholders to set up and plan quarterly OKRs that drive the success of AI Squad offering. You will ensure your Squad's work on the AI Platform is aligned with the wider strategy and commitments.
  • Operational Excellence: Setting high standards and driving engineering best practice across the AI platform stack. This includes focusing on observability (monitoring, logging, tracing) for the cloud-native solution, participating in peer reviews, and facilitating the maintenance of engineering standards, reliability, and performance.
  • Squad Empowerment: Contributing to a culture of creativity, curiosity, collaboration, inclusion and innovation within your Squads as you adopt new technologies and practices for AI Platform.
  • Champion Platform Ownership: Take ownership of both Ask Which and the reusable AI platform capabilities you build, ensuring they are secure, reliable, scalable, observable, and easy for product teams to adopt.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: You will work closely with Heads of Product Engineering, Engineering Managers.
