We’re looking for a Rent & Service Charges Officer to join our team and play a key role in supporting our rent setting and service charge functions. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career within social housing, working across finance and housing to help ensure our rent and service charge processes remain fair, transparent and compliant with an evolving regulatory landscape.
Responsibilities
- Processing rent adjustments and calculating annual rent increases, ensuring charges align with lease terms and tenancy agreements.
- Supporting the end-to-end service charge cycle, including gathering cost information, calculating estimates and preparing end-of-year reconciliations.
- Completing annual reviews of rent accounts to ensure all uplift charges are accurate.
- Carrying out monthly relet checks to verify the accuracy of rents, charges and tenancy types.
- Reviewing affordable rent properties at void stage and rebasing rents in line with property valuations.
- Drafting letters, responding to enquiries and explaining rent and service charge information clearly to customers and colleagues.
- Maintaining accurate and compliant records within housing management systems and supporting internal and external audits.
- Supporting the annual rent setting and service charge processes, ensuring they are delivered accurately, on time and in line with legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Contributing to the preparation of monthly management accounts and supporting year-end statutory accounts activity.
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities relating to revenue generation and income streams.
- Building strong relationships across teams to ensure rent and service charge considerations are embedded into wider business decisions.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance transparency and deliver a positive customer experience.
Qualifications
- Experience or working in a financial environment and supporting financial reconciliation.
- Strong numerical ability and basic to intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
- Maths and English GCSE (Grades A*-C or 9-4), or equivalent qualifications.
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of both finance and housing law, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrate financial and analytical skills, including scenario modelling and impact analysis.
- Good communication skills with the ability to deal politely and effectively with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage your own workload while balancing on-the-job training and coursework.
- Experience of managing or supporting others to drive up performance and standards.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritisation of workload across the team.
- Previous experience in a similar role or knowledge of the social housing sector is preferred but not essential.
