12-month Fixed Term Contract
Location: Walsall, West Midlands
Contract: Full Time, Temporary, 37 hours per week (minimum two days in the office)

We’re looking for a Health, Safety and Environment Officer to join our team and play a key role in delivering our health and safety and environment ambitions and to support the successful delivery of whg’s 2030 Plan.

As a member of the HS&E Team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our policies and procedures are followed and reviewed to ensure they remain relevant. You will support the HS&E advisors in developing and implementing new ways of working, respond to urgent requests for help by colleagues, and ensure services are delivered on time and to a high standard.
A flexible approach to work is important for this role and the success of the team.

Working alongside the Head of HS&E and two HS&E Advisors you’ll ensure the right standards are being met and maintained across whg, whilst developing your skills too.

Through on-site inspections and audits the HS&E officer will provide our first line of defence, ensure that we are fulfilling our legal obligations and responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to the entire business on all matters pertaining to the HS&E function.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of whg’s HS&E procedures and ensure control measures are being followed and maintained.
- Liaising with HR and Occupational Health providers to ensure reports and referrals are maintained and accurate.
- Review and monitor the deployment and usage of personal safety devices across the business.
- Ensure contractors are monitored across departments.
- Report waste management and environmental issues to the HS&E advisor and take appropriate action to mitigate risk where required.
- Triage incidents and near-miss reports and write reports for management to assess trends and ensure learning.
- Progress and chase outstanding actions to satisfactory conclusion.
- Assist in delivering compliance and awareness training for colleagues that meets legislative requirements and best practice.
- Undertake routine administrative tasks.
- Support delivery of awareness and training workshops.
- Effectively communicate with colleagues and suppliers.
- Support incidents, accidents and near-miss investigations as required.
- Assist in reviewing policies, procedures, risk assessments and work instructions.
- Monitor the use of tools currently within the business including on-site audits.
