Creates and develops products to enable the fitment of emergency warning equipment to emergency vehicles. In addition to creating new designs, the candidate will also be responsible for physically checking that current designs are compatible with next model year vehicles, identifying shortfalls and proposing solutions. The candidate will follow the design process starting with concept initiation and follow it through total product assembly and functionality testing. The process will be facilitated by leveraging the understanding of core concepts in Mechanical Engineering. The candidate engages in continuous learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Develops, researches and analyzes design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Supports manufacturing prototype and pre-production products.
  • Prepares various vehicle fit reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information.
  • Collaborates with other departments such as Manufacturing Engineering, Test Engineering, Electrical Engineering and QA to solve problems related to Engineering issues, manufacturing documentation, and/or bills of materials.
  • Confers with Engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.

Qualifications and Education

  • High School Diploma with 5+ years of experience or AS or AAS degree in a related engineering field with 0–2+ years’ experience.
  • Experience with installation of emergency warning and lighting systems on vehicles preferred.
  • General working knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, blueprints, & specifications.
  • Active user/experience with engineering software including SolidWorks®, AutoCAD® or equivalent.
