Overview

Wheatley Plc is a leading housebuilder dedicated to delivering high-quality residential developments across the region. With a strong pipeline of projects and a focus on sustainable growth, we are seeking a commercially astute Management Accountant to support the finance team and provide insight into business performance.

Role Description

As a Management Accountant, you will play a key role in providing timely and accurate financial information to support decision-making. You will take ownership of the monthly management accounts, project cost reporting, forecasting, and budget management, with a strong focus on development projects and construction costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, and variance analysis.
  • Project-level cost reporting – monitor construction spend vs. budget.
  • Analyse Work in Progress (WIP), cost to complete, and margin forecasts on active sites.
  • Rent accruals for our commercial portfolio.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and quarterly forecasts for developments.
  • Review and reconcile project costings with operational and commercial teams.
  • Track land acquisition costs, infrastructure investment, and build costs.
  • Liaise with commercial and construction teams to review site performance.
  • Support year-end audit processes, including liaison with external auditors.
  • Provide financial insight to support land appraisals and new project assessments.
  • Ensure financial controls are adhered to and contribute to process improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant, possibly QBE.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within construction, property development, or housebuilding.
  • Experience with project costing, WIP, and management reporting.
  • Familiarity with VAT and CIS compliance is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of construction or housebuilding cost structures.
  • Analytical mindset with a high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting systems (e.g., COINS, WinAcs).
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to challenge and support operational teams.
  • Deadline-driven and able to manage multiple priorities.
