I am looking for a mechanical design engineer for a client based in Slough. You will work within a multi-disciplined team on an exciting products range that is a bit different from the norm.

Main purpose of job: The mechanical design and development of new and existing products as well as bespoke customer project delivery. This will include creating and vetting product specifications, detailed component and assembly design, creation of manufacturing data, testing, validation, and productionising.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver the mechanical design for customer projects as part of the product engineering team.
  • Solve design challenges with practical, robust solutions.
  • Ensure that the technical standards are maintained by applying industry best practice throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain 2D and 3D CAD drawings for components and assemblies.
  • Validate designs through analysis, prototyping and test before release.
  • Design for manufacture, assembly and cost.
  • Drive standardisation and modular design to cut complexity, lead time and cost.
  • Manage and update ERP data to ensure accurate and up to date product information.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues to determine root cause and establish a solution.
  • Work with operations to ensure products are built right first time, on time and to spec.
  • Interpret customer specifications practically, challenge requirements that add cost without value, and feed back to the commercial team.

Candidate requirements:

  • Must have a relevant STEM qualification, preferably a good degree, or suitable experience, with excellent demonstrable technical knowledge.
  • Strong mechanical design experience, taking components and assemblies from concept through to production.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modelling and 2D drawings (Inventor or similar).
  • Excellent working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Product minded, focused on building high quality products that perform in the field.
  • Understands technical drawings and Design for Manufacture.
  • A broad understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes.
  • Have an analytical, inquisitive, hands on approach with excellent problem solving skills.
