A founder‑led insurance and reinsurance advisory is seeking a senior actuarial consulting leader to lead its actuarial practice, with a particular focus on the London Market and Lloyd’s ecosystem. This is a rare opportunity for someone operating at Director level who wants more than a conventional consulting role. You will combine deep actuarial expertise, commercial judgment and market credibility to deliver high‑impact work for insurers, reinsurers, Lloyd’s market participants and specialty platforms.

The business is being built as a high‑quality, founder‑led advisory platform – practical, strategic, and commercially minded. The role offers real breadth with ownership where you will help lead senior client engagements from day one, while also shaping the actuarial proposition, delivery model and longer‑term capability of the business as it grows. As such, this is expected to be one of the core leadership positions supporting the firm’s longer‑term ambitions.

What you’ll do

  • Client leadership and advisory
    • Lead complex actuarial and related advisory engagements across the London Market and Lloyd’s ecosystem.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to Chief Actuaries, CFOs, CROs, CUOs and other senior stakeholders.
    • Bring clear, decision‑useful advice across areas such as reserving, capital, pricing, model validation, actuarial transformation and operating model design.
    • Translate technical actuarial issues into practical commercial outcomes for clients.
    • Present findings, recommendations and decision papers to senior executive and board‑level audiences.
    • Bring particular credibility in environments where governance, controls, audit scrutiny and executive oversight are important.
  • Practice building
    • Help define and build the business’ actuarial consulting proposition in the market.
    • Shape service offerings, go‑to‑market priorities and target client segments.
    • Contribute to thought leadership and market profile, particularly across Lloyd’s and specialty insurance.
    • Help establish the standards, methods and quality expected of a premium actuarial advisory business.
    • Over time, help shape the actuarial capability supporting the firm’s broader ambitions.
  • Delivery leadership
    • Lead end‑to‑end delivery of actuarial consulting assignments, ensuring high‑quality outputs and strong client outcomes.
    • Build fit‑for‑purpose delivery approaches using a combination of senior internal leadership and, where appropriate, external or partner‑supported actuarial resource.
    • Help design a scalable delivery model that can support growth without compromising quality.
    • Put in place appropriate review, QA and project governance disciplines.
    • Support the development of a future internal actuarial team as the platform evolves.
  • Business development and commercial leadership
    • Build relationships across the London insurance market, including insurers, reinsurers, managing agents, MGAs and investors.
    • Support origination, proposal development, pitch meetings and commercial conversations.
    • Identify opportunities to broaden client relationships across actuarial, capital, finance, risk and operating model work.
    • Take ownership for profitable growth of the actuarial practice over time.

What success looks like

In this role, success is likely to mean:

  • Building credibility quickly with clients and the market.
  • Winning and leading high‑quality actuarial mandates.
  • Establishing the business as a trusted name for actuarial and strategic advisory work.
  • Creating a scalable delivery model with the right balance of senior judgment and execution capacity.
  • Helping build the actuarial capability into a meaningful long‑term pillar of the business.

Who this is for

You are likely to be:

  • A senior actuary currently operating at Director level in a consulting firm, specialist advisory business or high‑end insurance services platform.
  • An experienced in‑house actuarial leader with strong market standing and clear commercial instinct.

You will likely bring:

  • Significant actuarial experience in the London Market / Lloyd’s environment.
  • Strong expertise in at least two of reserving, capital, pricing, model validation, actuarial transformation or risk.
  • Experience leading complex actuarial consulting or advisory engagements.
  • Strong executive presence and credibility with senior stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness and appetite to help win work, not just deliver it.
  • The judgment to operate effectively in a founder‑led, fast‑moving environment.
  • Enthusiasm for building something with real shape, influence and runway.

Technical areas of relevance

Experience in a number of the following areas will be valuable:

  • London Market reserving, with SAO related environments being advantageous.
  • Capital modelling / internal model work.
  • Pricing analytics and portfolio performance.
  • Actuarial transformation.
  • Solvency II and Lloyd’s‑related frameworks.
  • Finance, actuarial and data‑related operating model change.
  • Broader crossover with risk, capital or performance analytics.

Qualifications

  • Fellow of a recognised actuarial body, ideally IFoA or equivalent.
  • Strong academic background in actuarial science, maths, statistics, economics or a related field.

Build, rather than inherit. Work directly with the founder and senior clients. Help shape a premium actuarial advisory proposition from the ground up. Combine technical depth, commercial influence and strategic ownership. Join early enough for the role to have real long‑term leadership potential.

The company offers a competitive salary, discretionary bonus and eligibility for early‑stage share options. We will, however, be in touch should there be any other opportunities of potential interest suiting to your skills.
