Are you a hands‑on creator looking for a better work‑life balance? Randstad Education is seeking a versatile D&T Technician / Instructor for a vibrant secondary academy in Romford. This is a unique four‑day‑a‑week role, perfect for a skilled professional who enjoys the classroom and the workshop but wants their Fridays back. Starting as a temporary member of staff after the May half‑term, there is a clear pathway to a permanent contract starting in September 2026 for the right candidate.

Role

  • This role bridges the gap between technical support and classroom delivery. You will be the heartbeat of the workshop four days a week, ensuring a safe environment while also stepping up to lead student learning.
  • Technical Support (Mon‑Thu): Preparing materials (wood, metal, plastics) and maintaining machinery such as bandsaws, sanders, and CAD/CAM equipment.
  • Instructional Hours: Taking the lead on specific D&T lessons, guiding students through practical projects and theory.
  • Health & Safety: Maintaining strict safety standards and conducting routine risk assessments.
  • Departmental Support: Working closely with the D&T faculty to manage resources and prepare for GCSE/BTEC practical assessments.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a school workshop or similar role.
  • Proficiency in using standard workshop machinery; knowledge of 3D printing or laser cutting is a plus.
  • Confidence in leading a classroom and demonstrating practical skills to groups of young people.
  • Ability to commit to a consistent Monday to Thursday schedule.
  • Enhanced DBS check will be required for this role. Randstad can assist with this if you are not currently on the update service.
