T&RS Engineering is a rolling stock engineering consultancy specializing in maintenance optimization and strategy, audit support, and embracing a digital, green railway. We provide reliable and diverse engineering support to Train Operating Companies, Rolling Stock Leasing Companies, and other Rail Service Providers. In 2023, T&RS Engineering joined the Rendel and Ingerop Group, becoming part of a major international engineering consultancy, which has enhanced our technical skills and geographic coverage.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team in Doncaster. The Project Engineer will be responsible for delivering and managing various projects related to maintenance, overhaul, and engineering of traction & rolling stock fleets across the UK rail industry. Reporting to the Engineering and Operations Director, the Project Engineer will act as the Project Manager and deliver engineering work packages as part of a team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and delivering technical projects within specified scope
  • Implementing Maintenance or Overhaul Optimization on traction & rolling stock fleets
  • Producing technical documentation and reports
  • Working primarily in an office environment, with offsite work across the UK
  • Chairing meetings with clients and industry professionals at all levels
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with clients during project development and delivery
  • Conducting vehicle inspections on various rolling stock and plant equipment
  • Performing risk assessments and analysis related to engineering changes
  • Analyzing maintenance costs and proposing improvements to enhance performance and cost efficiency
  • Identifying failure trends and root causes
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by senior management

To succeed, you should have:

  • Proven ability to plan, manage, and deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Practical experience in rolling stock engineering and/or maintenance
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Experience in conducting process and production audits
  • Fleet engineering experience
  • Knowledge of modern rolling stock and systems
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or HND with relevant experience
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with rail industry standards
