Reports To: Production Operations Manager
Direct Reports: Production Planner / Admin, Production Supervisors / Team Leaders, Production Operatives, Production QA Manager
Main Purpose of Role: You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing manufacturing activities to ensure production targets are met efficiently, safely and within quality standards. This role involves managing production schedules, leading a team, maintaining quality standards, improving processes, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. You will play a key role in driving productivity, reducing waste, and meeting business objectives while ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
Main List of Activities:
- Planning of staff rotas, overtime and agency staff to optimise operations, minimise downtime and improve efficiencies.
- Direct responsibility for the Production department to ensure the team are appropriately trained and motivated to carry out their responsibilities to the required levels of quality and productivity.
- Strict adherence to production procedures, safety procedures and health and safety by all direct reports.
- Comply with all company HR & HS Policies and Procedures.
- Timely reporting of any production issues including machine breakdowns / faults to the Production Operation Manager / Operations Director.
- Production Meetings held with the Production and Engineering teams daily to ensure clear instructions and communicate on any ongoing issues to achieve operational goals.
- Work closely with engineering, sales, and supply chain teams to streamline processes and resolve production challenges.
- Ensure standards of quality are monitored and maintained at all times by liaising with the QA Manager.
- Be involved in quality investigations and where possible add input to prevent reoccurrence.
- Ensure all paperwork / housekeeping is completed fully and field and weekly audits completed in a timely manner.
- Track Key Performance Indicators (KPI’S) and prepare reports on production efficiency, costs and performance metrics.
- Feedback KPI metrics to all direct reports quarterly.
- Involvement in all customer audits for Quality, H&S and Environmental compliance.
- Monitor raw materials, equipment and labour to optimise volume and quality of production output.
Skills Required:
- Proven experience in managing, leading and motivating large teams – minimum 5 years.
- Familiarity with production processes, lean manufacturing or similar methodologies.
- Proficiency in manufacturing software and Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities to troubleshoot and optimise processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good people skills and ability to work well with colleagues and management.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure.
- First Aider (training can be provided).
- Fire Marshall (training can be provided).
- Health & Safety awareness and NEBOSH.
- Audit completion.
