Reporting to: Lead Design Engineer Analyst
About the role
We are looking for a Junior Design Engineer to join our Technical Solutions team and support the delivery of engineering design, analysis and project activities. This is a development-focused role, ideal for someone early in their engineering career who is keen to build technical capability within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. You will contribute to the safe and effective transport of radioactive materials (RAM), gaining hands-on experience across a range of engineering projects while working under the guidance of experienced engineers.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting engineering design and analysis activities for RAM transport systems
- Assisting in the development of safety cases for transport assets and systems
- Applying engineering principles to help solve technical challenges, with guidance from senior colleagues
- Supporting the development of scopes of work, including identifying risks and contributing to mitigation plans
- Planning and monitoring your own work to meet agreed timelines, budgets and quality standards
- Producing and communicating technical information clearly, with support where needed
- Working within company processes and systems, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, projects and wider business functions
- Developing your knowledge of engineering design, analysis and regulated industry requirements
Training & development
This role is designed as a developmental pipeline position, providing experience across engineering design, analysis and project delivery. The successful candidate will be supported to build capability and progress into more senior engineering roles within NTS.

Who we’re looking for
Experience
- A degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical), or currently working towards one
- Some exposure to engineering design, analysis or project work (academic or industry)
- Experience working as part of a team to deliver shared objectives
Knowledge
- Understanding of core engineering principles
- Awareness of engineering design and analysis methods
- Basic knowledge of regulated or safety-critical environments (desirable)
- Awareness of safety case development (desirable)

- Strong problem-solving ability and willingness to learn
- Good communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly
