Junior Teaching Chef – The Jamie Oliver Cookery School – London Company Description In May of this year, we launched our flagship cookery school – our second site – with John Lewis & Partners, in their Oxford Street store! As such, our team is expanding and we\’re looking to grow our Teaching Chef team.Junior Teaching Chefs support the Teaching Chef team in the delivery of our exciting and inspiring experiences. They assist in all aspects of the running of our vibrant school, from prep, to hosting our guests, to teaching our classes.We\’re looking for candidates who love food, love people and have the tenacity and ambition to develop into a fully fledged Teaching Chef. Position WHY WE NEED YOU You\’re here to support our team in running excellent cookery classes, and help drive us to be the UK\’s best cookery school. You\’ll assist the Teaching Chefs throughout the day to day running of the school. Key duties will be food preparation, class set up, class assistance, clearing down and general support.Your love of food and passion for people will ensure every guest has an excellent experience with us. Your drive and hunger will ensure shifts are run professionally and efficiently. Performing this role excellently will serve as the perfect training and preparation to fulfil your ambition – becoming a fully fledged Teaching Chef.WHAT DOES A JUNIOR TEACHING CHEF DO As Junior Teaching Chef there are five key pillars of your role:Excellent Food Preparation – One important part of your day will be to prepare the food for our classes, this will require:A natural cooking ability. A solid understanding of flavour, dishes and techniques. Sticking to run plans. The ability to follow run plans or instructions given, and deliver with reliability. Attention to detail. Excellent Operation – From the kitchen into the classes, you\’ll keep things clean, organised and in control:Kitchen management: Managing deliverings, keeping fridges clean, and generally, keeping the kitchen clean and organised. Lesson assistance: Supporting the Teaching Chef in classes is a crucial part of your role. Turnarounds and closes: Supporting the Teaching Chef in turnarounds between classes and closes. Customer Confidence – A crucial aspect of your role (and the role of a Teaching Chef) is being confident and natural in working with people and paying guests. You\’ll spend all day every day working with your colleagues and clients:People skills: Confident, charming and positive. Communication and presentational skills: Great potential as a communicator and presenter. Welcoming & Hosting: You\’ll have an eye for detail and for the whole experience. Food Safety, Hygiene & Health and SafetyFood safety. Taking Food Level 3 Food Hygiene training, and adhering to all policies. HACCP & Health and safety. You will follow all HACCP guidelines, and healthy and safety requirements. Hygiene and presentation. You\’ll have a high level of respect and care for the businesses, and your own hygiene and presentation. Embody Team CultureWe have a strong team working culture, that everyone plays a part in. Requirements WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR You don\’t necessarily need a background in hospitality or cheffing!We\’re looking for ambitious, food-obsessed candidates to join our team. You\’ll be a confident cook, and even more confident around people. You\’ll be a solid communicator, and a natural talking about food. You\’ll be tenacious, positive, and share our love of teaching and experiences.If the above sounds like you, you could be our perfect candidate. We\’ll train you on everything you need to support the running of our school and our classes. And together, we\’ll plan how you develop into a Teaching Chef at our school. Other information ANYTHING ELSE The busiest time of our school is weekends and evenings – the role requires that you work weekend and evening shifts. Working week: 48 hours per week The successful candidates will be able to work in Central London and, from time to time, will support at our Jamie Oliver Cookery School based in North London.
