We are seeking a skilled Customs Clearance Specialist to join our team in Tilbury, Essex. This role is ideal for someone with experience in freight forwarding customs processes, particularly with ocean and European road freight, ensuring smooth and compliant import clearances in a busy environment.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Processing a variety of import clearances promptly for key clients, maintaining excellent service levels.
- Liaising with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors to collect and provide accurate information for customs clearance in line with HMRC regulations.
- Advising customers on UK import requirements, including commodity codes, customs procedures, and relevant trade regulations.
- Ensuring compliance with standards set by an AEO-accredited freight forwarder.
- Completing customs entries using CDS and managing documentation with CNS and Destin8 software.
- Navigating HMRC’s online tariffs and government trade resources confidently.
- Raising invoices including Duty and VAT, providing manual tax calculations to assist customer understanding.
- Collaborating with the team to ensure operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintaining attention to detail across all customs documentation and communication.
- Adapting to evolving freight forwarding industry requirements and processes.
What We’re Looking For:
- Minimum two years’ experience working with a small to medium-sized freight forwarder.
- Proven expertise in customs clearance, especially using CDS for ocean and European road freight.
- Strong knowledge of UK customs tariffs, commodity codes, and trade compliance.
- Familiarity with Free Trade Agreements (FTA), origin, and preference rules.
- Experience with CNS, Destin8, and Multi-freight forwarding software (CCS-UK experience advantageous).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly, collaborative approach.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Excellent English and Maths skills.
