Overview
Within Centrica Home (B2C), the Product Design team creates digital experiences that balance customer needs with business goals. As a Senior Product Designer on Hive, you'll help shape our smart home app, enabling customers to manage their homes more efficiently while reducing energy costs and carbon impact. You'll own the design of key mobile app features, working autonomously while collaborating closely with product, engineering, commercial and brand teams. You'll define problems, explore solutions through research and prototyping, and deliver high-quality, insight-led design. Strong mobile experience, design systems thinking and the ability to influence strategy are essential. Experience with motion, AI-enabled workflows or connected ecosystems is a bonus.
About the role
Some of your accountabilities will include:
- Crafting the Hive app experience
- Leading end-to-end design for mobile app features, aligned to platform and accessibility standards
- Creating flows, wireframes and prototypes to test and validate ideas
- Making complex smart-home technology feel simple and intuitive
- Working within and evolving our design system
- Contributing scalable components, patterns and documentation
- Championing consistency across the app
- Designing flexible, content-driven CMS templates
- Collaborating across teams and stakeholders
- Partnering with product, engineering, platform, commercial, copy and brand teams
- Presenting work clearly and navigating trade-offs
- Working closely with engineers to ensure quality delivery
- Leading user research and validation
- Running usability testing and unmoderated research
- Partnering with UX Research on complex studies
- Turning insights into actionable design decisions
- Mentoring and driving excellence
- Supporting midweight and junior designers
- Staying current with tools and best practice
- Helping improve design processes and culture
What we're looking for
Minimum criteria
- Strong app product design experience with a portfolio showing impact - PLEASE INCLUDE PORTFOLIO OR WORKING LINK
- Extensive mobile app experience and knowledge of platform guidelines
- Experience contributing to design systems at scale
- CMS and content-driven design experience
- Proficiency in Figma and prototyping tools
- Research skills, from planning to insight-led design
- Clear communication and strong accessibility knowledge
Nice to have
- Motion or animation skills for mobile
- Experience using AI tools in your design workflow
Education and Certifications
A design-related degree (or equivalent professional experience)
