To select length of stainless steel, steel alloy, iron, copper, aluminium or plastic piping and to cut it to the required size with hacksaw, pipe cutter or machine. To prepare and position pipework and flanges for subsequent welding, alignment orientation, gaps, spacing, straightness whilst welding and arc welding. To bend piping by machine or heat with blow lamp and bend by hand. To join metal piping by soldering or thread cutting and screwing. To join plastic piping by cementing or fusing by hot air welding. To form piping from sheet metal. To check pipe preparations, tack welded joints, alignment, straightness and dimensional accuracy. To install prefabricated sections on site. To be trained and operate trade required machinery. To be trained and operate overhead cranes including basic slinging in a safe manner. To carryout Firewatch/Stand By duties. To adhere to all safety requirements including safety checks of tools and equipment. To use Oxy/fuel hand burning/heating/cutting equipment. To use all relevant workshops/site equipment associated with job requirements including all relevant training/certification requirements Standards and Expectations Achievement of tasks and targets set by chargehand and/or supervisor. Produce good quality work to contract / specification requirements Achievement of petrochemical flange test. Competence Demonstration of abilities in different environments including fabrication workshop and site. Ability to guide pipefitter trainees with their trade skills Key Requirements: Essential Full Apprenticeship in relevant or related trade and/or a Vocational Qualification at L3 (NVQ/QCF/RQF) from a recognised Awarding Body (ECITB/EAL) OR Ace Card or equivalent in Installing Plant & Systems - Pipefitting OR ECITB Technical Test (TPF13 or TPF05) CCNSG Safety Passport Training Knowledge & Skill A minimum of 2 years\' experience in the manufacture of small and large bore pressure pipe work, as well as experience in the installation of pressure pipe work, superheater headers and vessels. Experience Completion of a recognized apprenticeship within a related engineering or engineering construction environment. Experience working within the Engineering Construction Industry on large capital plant such as thermal and nuclear power stations, oil refineries, petrochemical installations, industrial process installations and oil rigs etc. Other Sound knowledge, understanding and application of techniques and equipment within pipefitting as detailed below Determine technical requirements to achieve objectives together with resource requirements Shape pipework components by material removal using hand tools using appropriate methods, techniques and equipment. Assemble pipework components to meet specification, securing, checking and using the appropriate methods, techniques, connectors and securing devices. Shape pipework components by manually applied pressure using approved tools, equipment and techniques, checking that all the required shaping operations have been completed to specifications. Prepare the work area, materials and equipment so that they are ready for engineering activities to be carried out, making sure procedures and the required safety arrangements are in place. Position and install pipework by positioning and securing equipment and components in accordance with the specification, which also includes ensuring that all necessary connections to equipment have been completed to the specification. Carry out marking out using appropriate equipment and methods and check to ensure it meets specification. Carrying out checks on pipework installations in an appropriate sequence using approved methods. Also identifying and assess defects and variations and taking appropriate action Reinstate the work area after completing the installation of pipework, separating and correctly storing equipment, components and materials for reuse as well as waste items for disposal.
