We are seeking to appoint aforward-thinking and talented Deputy Headteacher from January 2027.

As Whaplode moves to a dedicated Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher leadershipmodel, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the nextphase of the school’s journey, building on its existing strengths and supportingcontinued improvement.

Job Description

To bea member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Tosupport the development and implementation of rich curriculum that has breadth,depth and balance whilst taking into account thelocal school context.

Tosecure highqualityteaching and learning that allows pupils to build their knowledge and to applythat knowledge as skills.

Developsystems to measure outcomes that pupils achieve because of teaching andlearning, ensuring they are fully implemented across the academy.

KeyTasks and Responsibilities

Work alongside the Headteacher todevise and implement the Strategic Direction of the School, with focus onteaching and learning.

Work alongside the Headteacher,Trust and other key stakeholders to ensure that the school’s and Trust’s visionare clearly articulated, shared, and understood.

Work within the school community totranslate the school’s vision into agreed objectives that promote and sustainschool improvement.

Motivate and work with others tocreate a shared culture and positive environment.

Support the implementation of theSchool Development Plan ensuring that pupils achieve high standards, make goodprogress and that teaching is effective.

Ensure that the day to day runningof the Academy supports Trust policies, vision and aims.

LeadingTeaching and Learning

Support the Headteacher in the monitoringand leading of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost-effectivecurriculum in the Academy.

Actively monitor and respond to thecurriculum development and initiatives at national, regional and local levels.

Monitor, evaluate and review classroompractice, ensuring accountability of staff for the progress of their pupils.

Maintain a consistent and continuousfocus on students’ achievement, ensuring resources are deployed to enhanceprogress.

With the Headteacher, organise andmonitor the curriculum in line with Trust priorities, vision and ethos,evaluating its effectiveness and reporting findings to the Headteacher.

With the Headteacher, monitor the qualityof teaching and pupils’ achievements including the analysis of performancedata, to ensure enhanced progress

Managingthe Organisation

With the Headteacher, develop andimplement organisational structures and procedures to enable managementprocesses to work effectively in line with legal requirements.

With the Headteacher, produce andimplement clear, evidence‑based School Development Plans for the improvement ofthe Academy.

Assist the Headteacher inrecruiting, retaining and deploying staff appropriately and assist in managingthe staff’s workload to achieve the vision and goals, linked to the DevelopmentPlan.

Support effective Growth andDevelopment processes within the school as aligned with Trust policy.

Ensure that the range, quality anduse of all available resources is monitored, evaluated and reviewed to improvethe quality of education for all students and provide value for money.

DevelopingSelf and Working with Others

Regularly review own practice andtake responsibility for own personal development.

Implement and maintain effectivestrategies and procedures for teaching staff induction, professionaldevelopment and performance reviews.

Treat people equitably and withdignity and respect to create and maintain a positive Academy culture in linewith the Trust’s ethos and values.

Ensure clear delegation of tasksand responsibilities, so that teams and individuals undertake effectiveplanning, allocation, support and evaluation of work.

Acknowledge responsibilities andcelebrate achievements of teams and individuals to promote a positivesuccessful culture across the whole Academy.

Build a collaborative learningculture within the school and actively engage with other schools/stakeholdersto build effective learning communities.

Manage own workload and that ofothers to allow an appropriate work/life balance.

SecuringAccountability

Fulfil commitments of contractualaccountability to the Headteacher.

Work with the Headteacher,providing information, objective advice and support to enable the Trust to meetits responsibilities.

Support the Headteacher indeveloping and strengthening the Academy ethos that enables everyone to workcollaboratively, share knowledge and understanding, celebrate success andaccept responsibility for outcomes.

With the Headteacher, ensureindividual teaching staff accountabilities are clearly defined, understood,agreed and subject to rigorous review.

StrengtheningCommunity

Support the Headteacher in buildinga school culture and curriculum which consider the richness and diversity ofthe school’s communities.

Ensure learning experiences forstudents are integrated with the wider community, and that some of these arecommunity based.

Collaborate with other agencies topromote the academic, spiritual, moral, social, emotional and culturalwellbeing of students and their families.

Support the creation andmaintenance of effective partnerships with parents and carers to support andimprove students’ achievement and personal development.

Seek opportunities to inviteparents and carers, community figures, businesses or other organisations intothe Academy to enrich its value to the wider community.

Co-operate and work with relevantagencies to protect children.

Carry out any other reasonableduties commensurate with the role.

Safeguarding

Ensure that the school is a safeplace for children, ensuring that all safeguarding procedures are of thehighest standard

Be a named DDSL and support the DSLand promote the accurate recording and management of safeguarding concerns andensure compliance with statutory guidance

Ensure consistent and thoroughprocedures and practices of all staff in relation to being vigilant to thesafeguarding of all children including liaison with outside agencies.
