About The Role

As a Coatings Applicator, you'll prepare and apply protective coatings to new and existing equipment and surfaces, helping prevent corrosion and extend their working life.

Working closely with the Coatings Supervisor and wider delivery team, you'll take ownership of your workmanship, follow specifications and ensure every job is completed safely and to the required quality standard. This role would suit an experienced applicator who takes pride in a high-quality finish and can work confidently both independently and as part of a team.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare surfaces by removing contamination, mill scale, rust and unsound coatings, using appropriate tools and preparation techniques to achieve the specified standard.
  • Inspect surfaces before application, address imperfections and follow drawings or instructions to protect areas that must remain uncoated.
  • Prepare, mix and apply protective coatings in accordance with manufacturers' instructions, project specifications and safe systems of work.
  • Check equipment before use, clean it after completion and report defects or maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Support task planning, contribute to risk assessments and method statements, maintain accurate quality records and keep the Coatings Supervisor informed of progress or issues.
  • Maintain a safe, tidy working environment and represent WGM professionally when working with colleagues, clients, customers and the public.

What you'll bring:

  • Practical experience in surface preparation and protective coating application, with the ability to complete work safely without continuous supervision.
  • An understanding of coating specifications, manufacturers' instructions and the importance of preparation and application quality.
  • Knowledge of safe systems of work, with good attention to detail and the ability to maintain clear work records.
  • A valid driving licence permitting you to drive in the UK.

Desirable

  • Experience within water, utilities or industrial environments, alongside relevant coatings manufacturer training or a recognised coatings qualification.
  • Relevant site qualifications or training, such as CSCS/EUSR, confined space entry, DOMS, water hygiene, overhead/gantry crane operation or lifting operations.

Any client-specific security clearance and mandatory training requirements will be confirmed for the work involved.
