The Family Liaison Officer plays a vital role in supporting families of children with complex and challenging needs. You will work closely with parents, young people, carers and local authorities to understand circumstances, and coordinate collaborative, life‑changing resolutions and support. You will also help organise admission interviews, deliver detailed inductions, and draw on local resources to provide additional support.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with parents, young people, carers and local authorities to explore circumstances and agree constructive solutions.
- Coordinate and conduct visits at parents’ homes to discuss strategies and provide support.
- Leverage knowledge of local resources and direct families to additional support services.
- Organise and participate in admission interviews in partnership with the Head Teacher, and ensure thorough inductions.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of family engagement activities.
- Collaborate with multi‑agency teams, safeguarding and child protection professionals, and local authority contacts.
Qualifications
- Previous experience with SEN and working with families in challenging circumstances.
- Strong contacts within the local authority, including education, social services and healthcare professionals.
- Experience in multi‑agency work and understanding of legislation, policies and guidance around safeguarding and child protection.
- Genuine passion for enhancing life opportunities for young people and their families and the ability to be empathetic and understanding.
