The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) is an internationally renowned sailing events venue that was host to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Competitions. WPNSA regularly hosts major events such as World and European Championships as well as providing opportunities for recreational sailors to get on the water. The driving force and focus of the Academy are the sailing events and the provision of access to water sports for all but to sustain the facilities and business we have several other income streams such as a boat yard and a strong catering operation including conference and function facilities.

WPNSA are looking for a new Management Accountant to join our small team. This is a part-time position in the region of 20-24 hours per week but there is a degree of flexibility around the hours/days. It is a complex business which makes it a varied and interesting role. This is a hands-on role and whilst the key elements of the role are financial there may be potential to expand the role into other areas of administration for the right candidate. The priority is finding the right person to fit in with the existing team and so an open mind will be kept on how the role is filled.

Main Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts with variance analysis
  • Cash management
  • Liaison with external advisors as required
  • Ad-hoc financial reporting as required by the Chief Executive

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience of using Xero accounting software or similar
  • Relevant AAT or ACCA qualification or equivalent experience
  • Strong attention to detail with a high concern of accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong organisational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An appreciation of the demands of working in a busy environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to “pitch in” when needed
  • Experience of working as part of a Senior Management Team
  • Experience of budget preparation
  • Experience of ISO Management Systems
  • Ability to prepare and present financial reports to senior staff
  • An interest in sailing/water sports
