Job Description
Full Time – Four days in the office, Fridays working from home
£45,000 – £50,000 Experience dependant
Minimum 2 year’s experience in the property lending services.
Due to exciting growth and expansion, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bridging lending Underwriter to join specialist property lending business, Wey Bridging Finance, in Surrey. Focussing on bridging finance, you will be working closely with clients, brokers and internal teams to streamline the underwriting process. Candidates must have underwriting experience within bridging and/or development finance.
Wey Bridging Finance provides short-term unregulated loans to both businesses and individuals. We use our own capital to directly lend to the UK property market. Our lending solutions are ideal for property owners, developers and businesses. As we are a privately funded lender, we can complete transactions within days of the initial enquiry.
Duties of the Underwriter to include:
- Responsible for conducting comprehensive analysis of financial documents, credit histories, and property appraisals to make informed lending decisions.
- Manage personal loan pipeline, adhering to SLAs, conducting KYC, AML, and due diligence checks.
- Review legal documents, valuation reports, and perform key checks (land registry, credit).
- Underwrite loan applications following credit risk policy, assess risks across the property cycle, and support decisions on loan values and terms.
- Present loan funding proposals to Head of Lending and assist senior team with complex cases.
- Ensure fraud prevention, support the loan offer process, and execute transactions within agreed timelines.
- Help build and manage a network of brokers and borrowers, providing ongoing contact and exceptional customer service.
- Communicate with external stakeholders during the loan funding process.
- Attend meetings, share best practices, and act as a company ambassador.
Requirements for the successful Underwriter:
- Previous experience working within bridging and/or development finance underwriting.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to identify and assess risks accurately and effectively.
- Excellent communication abilities with strong written and verbal skills.
- Strong MS Excel abilities.
- Excellent organisations skills and ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks as part of a busy workload.
- Action new lending requests for bridging loans and analyse credit worthiness.
- Prepare credit proposals for submission to the Credit Committee.
- Preparing offer documentation and ensuring all loan conditions are met throughout the drawdown process.
- Underwrite and approve loans against agreed lending criteria.
- Handling broker calls on specific cases under review; manage customer expectations.
- Liaising with internal departments and stakeholders to effectively manage the lending process.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to structure transactions based upon market sector, asset and security.
- Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and manage time.
- Creative thinker and willing to work in an agile growing company.
