WEX is seeking a highly skilled and commercially minded Commercial Contracts Director to join our Global Travel Payments division in London. This new, critical role is at the heart of WEX’s success, focusing on the end-to-end commercial performance and operational delivery of agreements with our key global payment networks.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Networks and Payment Program Solutions, you will serve as the key manager of network contract performance for relationships providing payment cards across our global regions and General Managers. Your deep expertise in Visa and Mastercard compliance and finance is essential, as you will manage the review and operational implementation of over 2,000 network rule updates and bulletins, which impact all WEX operating systems and our ability to meet compliance mandates for all standard card payment processing transactions. This is a permanent, hybrid role based in London, requiring you to be in the office 3 days per week.

How you’ll make an impact

You will be instrumental in maximizing the value WEX derives from its network relationships while minimizing risk. Your primary areas of impact will include:

  • Optimizing Financial Outcomes: Own and manage all network contracts to ensure WEX meets financial targets, revenue goals, and margin expectations. You will analyze fee schedules, rebate structures, and volume commitments, recommending corrective actions to secure incentives and rebates.
  • Maintain full compliance: Establish robust internal processes, controls, and provide expert compliance guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Shaping Future Strategy: Collaborate closely with Solutions SMEs and product specialists to proactively map and evaluate the financial, operational, and contractual impacts of new network initiatives, rule changes, and innovations.
  • Influencing Leadership: Prepare and deliver clear, concise monthly reports to senior management on contract status, deal performance, and financial impacts, providing essential visibility into risks and opportunities.

The successful candidate will combine deep contractual expertise with strong financial and commercial acumen. We are looking for candidates who are self-sufficient, commercially minded, and results-driven.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional Experience: In contract management, commercial roles, or financial services with direct exposure to major payment networks (Visa, Mastercard, etc.).
  • Payments Expertise: Prior experience in the card issuing or card payments industry is essential, with an in-depth, "inside out" knowledge of Visa and Mastercard dynamics, network rules, and compliance frameworks.
  • Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated success delivering measurable ROI from complex commercial agreements, including strong experience in Deal Bidding and commercial negotiation.
  • Financial Skills: Strong financial management and reporting capabilities, including proficiency in financial modeling and data interpretation (Google Suite, Excel or equivalent).
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel, including once per quarter internationally (e.g., to New York) and domestically to Manchester to see the finance team.
