This is a superb opportunity for the right candidate to leverage their experience as a music specialist in a high‑performing school environment to help establish world‑class singing provision at Wetherby Pembridge. Working closely with the Founding Head of Music, the successful candidate will have an exciting role in helping to develop an innovative, ambitious and comprehensive Music programme for this exciting chapter in the Wetherby Pembridge journey.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To teach the highest quality individual music lessons to pupils.
  • To promote musical excellence and enjoyment of music by demonstrating vocal skills to pupils.
  • To ensure the safeguarding of all pupils, in line with the school’s safeguarding policy.
  • To ensure progress of all pupils by preparing and teaching lessons appropriately tailored for each student.
  • To keep a detailed record of pupil’s progress and achievements.
  • To set and communicate specific targets for pupil’s individual practice each week.
  • To have a clear knowledge and understanding of the requirements and marking criteria for music exams relevant to your instrument(s).
  • Where applicable, to ensure that pupils are well prepared for music exams with either ABRSM, Rockschool or Trinity exam boards.
  • Use departmental systems of awards and monitoring concerns in order to communicate pupil’s progress and/or concerns with the Head of Music in a timely manner.
  • Where applicable, to communicate with parents pupil’s progress and/or concerns.
  • To direct ensembles and/or music activities when timetables allow and as per the request of the Head of Music.
  • To pro‑actively engage in initiatives to achieve consistency across the music department (curriculum, ensembles and individual lessons).
  • Whenever possible, to support music events in the music calendar.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
  • Recognised music qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • High‑level performance ability and demonstrated expertise on one or more instruments or voice.
  • Proven experience teaching individual students and/or directing ensembles across a range of ages and abilities.
  • Strong understanding of music pedagogy, including differentiation, inclusive practice, and student‑centred learning approaches.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills, including lesson planning, scheduling, and record keeping.
  • Confidence using technology to support music learning, rehearsal, or performance preparation.
  • A collaborative, flexible, and proactive approach, with the ability to work within a busy and dynamic department.
  • A commitment to high artistic standards, professionalism, and student development.
