This is a superb opportunity for the right candidate to leverage their experience as a music specialist in a high-performing school environment to help establish world-class instrumental provision at Wetherby Pembridge. Working closely with the Founding Head of Music, the successful candidate will help develop an innovative and comprehensive Music programme.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To teach the highest quality individual music lessons to pupils;
  • To promote musical excellence and enjoyment of music by demonstrating instrumental skills to pupils;
  • To ensure the safeguarding of all pupils, in line with the school’s safeguarding policy;
  • To ensure progress of all pupils by preparing and teaching lessons appropriately tailored for each student;
  • To keep a detailed record of pupils’ progress and achievements;
  • To set and communicate specific targets for pupils’ individual practice each week;
  • To have a clear knowledge and understanding of the requirements and marking criteria for music exams relevant to your instrument(s);
  • Where applicable, to ensure that pupils are well prepared for music exams;
  • Use departmental systems of awards and monitoring concerns to communicate pupils’ progress and/or concerns;
  • Where applicable, to communicate with parents’ progress and/or concerns;
  • To direct ensembles and/or music activities when timetables allow;
  • To pro-actively engage in initiatives to achieve consistency across the music department;
  • Whenever possible, to support music events in the music calendar.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Music;
  • Proven success in teaching instrumental lessons to various ages and skill levels;
  • Professional performance experience;
  • Familiarity with different teaching methodologies and techniques;
  • Professional standard in their main instrument;
  • Ability to teach a wide range of musical genres and styles;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively;
  • Strong organisational abilities to manage schedules, lesson plans, and student progress;
  • Capability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual needs;
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethics;
  • Willingness to collaborate with other members of the department;
  • Genuine passion for music education and a desire to inspire a love of music in students;
