Homeworker with designated office in Newton Abbot, 18.125 hours per week, £14,063 per annum (FTE £28,126). We have an exciting opportunity for a Sundry Debt Officer to join our expanding Housing Team on a permanent basis. This is a part-time position and is being offered as a homeworking role with a designated office in Newton Abbot.

You will be supporting the Housing Services Manager to recover primarily the supported former tenant arrears and other sundry debt owed to the organisation. You will be working proactively to prevent former tenant debt by promptly collecting housing related debts and charges. You will communicate and support customers by negotiating payment arrangements to ensure that debts are paid within a reasonable timeframe and deliver a customer focussed service by responding effectively, concisely and appropriately with all customers both internal and external.

Duties also include:

  • Signposting customers who are facing difficulties to the relevant support services.
  • Preparing all paperwork for court proceedings in relation to any enforcement action required and instructing agencies for the collection of former tenancy arrears debt.
  • Working closely with the housing, property and customer enabling hub colleagues to minimise and resolve debt.
  • Maintaining accurate and accessible records for all account-related activities in accordance with procedures.

  • Experience of dealing with chasing debt and payments from customers.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to plan, prioritise and organise your own workload as well as work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of collaborative working across multiple departments.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
