WestsevenGP is seeking a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to support the delivery of high-quality primary care services and long-term condition management. Job role is for 3 days (22.5 hours). You must have UK experience of working as a Health Care Assistant in a General Practice or Hospital environment.
Main duties of the job
- The role involves conducting physical health checks, phlebotomy, wound care/dressings, ABPM, ECGs, Urinalysis, NHS health checks, Flu, pneumococcal, shingles vaccinations, B12 injections.
- The post holder will contribute to the management of patients with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease and COPD and supporting clinicians with procedures.
Job responsibilities
- Undertake new patient and NHS health checks ABPM, ECGs, Urinalysis Blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, height, weight, waist circumference and Body Mass Index, measurement of legs for compression hosiery, recording findings accurately.
- Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
- Contribute to the management of chronic disease clinics and health promotion programmes.
- Administer flu, shingles, pneumococcal vaccinations and B12 injections.
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance.
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy.
Person Specification
- Experience
- Experience of working as HCA in GP surgery or clinical setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Competent in the use of Office and Outlook.
- Experience of Systm One clinical system.
- Qualifications
- GCSE grade A-C in English and Maths or equivalent.
- Healthcare qualification level 3 or 4 or working towards it.
