Job Purpose
The No.3 Printing Operator is integral to the success of Smurfit Westrock, working with the Printing team in Bristol that is currently going through a strong period of growth. The ability to adapt, be inquisitive and work closely with all departments and peers is crucial to the success of this role.
Printing Press
- Max Speed: Up to 18,000 sheets per hour.
- Printing Units: 7 colour units for an expanded colour gamut.
- In-line Finishing: Dual coater (double varnish) setup configured to run conventional or UV/LED coatings and varnishes.
- Automation: Features DriveTronic SIS (sidelay-free infeed) and simultaneous plate changing (DriveTronic SPC).
Job Responsibilities/Key accountabilities:
- The No.3 operator of the machine is to assist the No.1 and No.2 operator in fully discharging his duties.
- Responsible for feeding the prime raw material ensuring optimum run speeds and maximising machine efficiencies with the minimum amount of waste.
- Check that the primary resource board is available for production of next job. If not, report any deficiency to No.1, No.2 and/or supervisor.
- Assist with the Make ready of job on the machine.
- Operate the feeder in accordance with the standard operating procedures.
- Check each unprinted pallet load for quality and quantity, and take any necessary corrective action/s.
- Assist in operating machine/equipment in a safe manner ensuring the safety of all employees.
- Reach a level of competence with the necessary paperwork (Checking material issue sheet and completing return to stock/warehouse section if required, plus reject form if necessary).
- Be responsible for the general cleanliness and housekeeping in and around machine area, with particular emphasis on feeder end and white waste stacks.
- Pile turn and blow loads as required.
- Assist in carrying out correctly operator maintenances.

- Knowledge and experience as a plant operator - in an industrial/factory environment.
- A strong appreciation of and regard for Quality and Safety.
- Flexible working attitude and a strong team working approach.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of 5S to improve production environment.
- Understanding of KPI’s to track performance.
