Reporting to the EHS & Facilities Manager, the EHS Advisor/Coordinator will support our internal and external projects to meet the requirements of the Health, Safety, Environmental and Management systems. The EHS Advisor/Coordinator will monitor and ensure on-site compliance against Company, Client and legislative requirements, taking action to minimise risks whilst creating and improving EHS across the site.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the EHS & Facilities Manager to promote a safety-first culture.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses and implement corrective actions to drive performance improvements.
  • Monitor on-site compliance against company, client, and legislative requirements through operational auditing, including but not limited to ladder checks, emergency lighting, chemical register, legal register, legionella, asbestos, PAT, waste, racking, fire etc.
  • Engage and coach contractors to help drive a positive safety culture.
  • Be a frequent on-site presence, delivering clear and accurate communication on all health and safety-related matters.
  • Promote continuous improvement of safety performance.
  • Support the development of EHS skills within operational line management requirements.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of EHS standards across the site.
  • Responsible for ensuring all plant and equipment is calibrated (in conjunction with Maintenance).
  • Conduct appropriate in-house training and toolbox talk sessions.
  • Support operational and management personnel to deliver their EHS responsibilities.
  • Deputise for the EHS & Facilities Manager when required.
  • Monitor and support the close out of Non‑Conformance and Corrective Actions Reports.
  • Complete Regular Audits, both on site and externally.
  • Produce Risk, COSHH Assessments, SSOW and any other associated Health and safety documentation.
  • Auditing supply chain to ensure Smurfit Westrock Leicester are not exposed due to poor working practices.

Skills And Qualifications:

  • Communication: Demonstrate excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Be a team player who can work well with others in a diverse and inclusive environment to contribute to the team’s goals and objectives, as well as provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Time Management: Can complete multiple tasks within tight deadlines and adapt to changing needs and priorities.
  • Customer Service: Work in a professional and courteous manner that represents Smurfit Westrock positively.
  • Problem Solving: Excellent problem‑solving skills, identify issues, and propose solutions.
  • Decision making: Confident to make logical decisions that align with Smurfit Westrock Values.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • NEBOSH level 3 or equivalent.
