The predicted salary is between 33699 - 36363 £ per year.
Pay Range: £17.51 per hour - £18.89 per hour, or Salary £33,699 - £36,363 per annum based on experience.
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 8am – 4:30pm & Friday 8am – 11am (30 mins lunch plus 2 x 15 min breaks).

THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit a Port Welder to work within the Port in the Tyne & Wear area on a permanent basis.
THE ROLE:
- Supply the Port and internal customers with a high‑quality efficient welding service in the form of delivering MIG & Stick welding.
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks in support of port infrastructure, equipment maintenance and marine operations.
- Ensure the structural integrity and operational readiness of port assets, including cranes, cargo handling equipment, vessels, and dockside facilities.
- Welding heavy steel equipment – dock gates, plant & machinery, marine & dockside operational assets, hand rails, etc.
- Carry out welding, cutting and burning, fabrication and assembly of metal components to various items of Port infrastructure, machinery and equipment.
- Establish excellent working relationships and collaborate with internal departments and third‑party suppliers of materials and services to ensure efficient planned maintenance activities and emergency repairs including out of hours.
- Deal with deadlines, interruptions, and conflicting demands, ensuring that all work and documentation are completed within appropriate timeframes.
- Install, repair, or replace new, damaged, or defective parts or sections of Port infrastructure, machinery, and equipment.
- Take corrective action to resolve any identified faults/issues.
- Appropriately elevate matters to management when required.
- Inspect welds for quality and compliance with safety and engineering standards.
- Assist colleagues to carry out scheduled services and repairs to plant equipment and infrastructure.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
- Operate a variety of industry standard welding equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to port safety protocols, including confined space entry, working at heights, and hot work procedures.
- Undertake work independently.
- Willing to work with minimal supervision following set procedures.
- Ensure work is carried out accurately and in an organized and effective way.
THE PERSON:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience in Welding/Fabrication or Mechanical Engineering.
- Time served welder.
- Able to work outdoors in all the elements.
- Certified in MIG and Stick welding techniques.
- Ideally experience working within industrial, maritime, and/or port environments.
- Driving licence.
THE PACKAGE:
This is a permanent role and pays an annual salary of between £33,699 - £36,363 depending on experience.
