THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit a Quality Manager to work for our client in the County Durham area. The role centres on a dayshift pattern offering excellent work/life balance.
Our client is one of the UK’s largest food packaging manufacturers. Beginning as a family-owned business they have endured substantial business growth. Through product innovation, continued investment and expertise they now produce packaging solutions to supermarkets, food manufacturers, contract packing and attained numerous packaging industry product design awards. They have continued to further grow through acquisitions and have multiple sites across the nation.
As a result, they have a need to hire a Quality Manager. The successful candidate will contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice quality vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
THE ROLE
- You will be responsible for ensuring timely and effective implementations of all company policies, procedures and activities involved in assuring the quality of manufactured products.
- You will work closely with other production department managers/supervisors in order to meet and maintain product quality, identify, solve and prevent problems affecting product quality, maximise productivity.
- You will ensure BRC/Quality policies/procedures are updated, communicated and adhered to at all times, by all departments.
- You will manage and direct the quality team which includes a quality supervisor and a team of quality coordinators and auditors, who are responsible for enforcing good manufacturing practices and quality standards, to meet product safety and quality requirements.
- You will proactively contribute to site improvements by conducting quality review action meetings with the wider operations team.
- You will manage, communicate, and implement training where required, as a result of changes to the company procedures.
- You will communicate with suppliers to ensure approval for supply and appropriate documentation received.
- Police and enforce PPE, workwear, hygiene standards, cleaning procedures and general housekeeping
- Carry out internal audits in compliance with company procedures (e.g. Glass, Sharps, GMP, Traceability), and ensure actions are carried out by relevant departments.
- You will keep up to date with changes in legislation; amend accordingly and communicate all relevant policies/information.
- You will meet the companies Objectives and Key Results (OKR’s) through an agreed set of KPI’s.
- You will be responsible for compliance of the BRCGS programme for food packaging suppliers, ensuring compliance to current issue published by BRCGS and communicating to all departments.
- You will ensure the HARM/HACCP process is maintained and required auditors are trained. Act as HARM team leader.
- You will amend procedures when required and ensure these are communicated, ensuring that where applicable this is also communicated to other sites to ensure alignment and compliance continues throughout the group.
- You will record, analyse and report all statistical information including but not limited to – raw materials testing results, cleaning, internal NCR’s, customer complaints, audit results.
- Support the General Manager with implementation of best practice quality systems.
- You identify opportunities for improving quality/performance and communicate to relevant Manager.
- Co-ordinate and support on-site audits conducted by external providers.
- Visit customers to provide support when required and communicate appropriate information.
- You support in the transition and implementation to ISO standards.
- You will ensure the goods inwards sample testing on raw materials and finished products is carried out and any issues are raised with the site General Manager and appropriate internal departments.
- You will communicate with customers and relevant departments and managers regarding customer complaints and issues.
- Support root cause analysis investigations and associated activities during corrective and preventative actions in relation to quality-related product issues both internal or external, and compliance audits, through collaboration with all relevant department managers/supervisors.
THE PERSON
- The ideal candidate will have quality management experience within a manufacturing background, preferably within the food industry.
- You need to have BRC audit experience in order to carry out this role.
- You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and relationship building skills.
- You will have a proven track record already within a similar role and able to demonstrate this.
- You will have the relevant qualifications within quality management.
- You will have experience of leading, managing and developing people.
