Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit a Quality Manager to work for our client in the County Durham area. The role centres on a dayshift pattern offering excellent work/life balance. Our client is one of the UK’s largest food packaging manufacturers, having endured substantial business growth through product innovation and continued investment.

The successful candidate will contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice quality vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.

THE ROLE

  • Ensure timely and effective implementations of all company policies, procedures and activities involved in assuring the quality of manufactured products.
  • Work closely with other production department managers/supervisors to meet and maintain product quality, identify, solve and prevent problems affecting product quality, and maximise productivity.
  • Ensure BRC/Quality policies/procedures are updated, communicated and adhered to at all times, by all departments.
  • Manage and direct the quality team, including a quality supervisor and a team of quality coordinators and auditors.
  • Proactively contribute to site improvements by conducting quality review action meetings with the wider operations team.
  • Manage, communicate, and implement training as required due to changes in company procedures.
  • Communicate with suppliers to ensure approval for supply and appropriate documentation received.
  • Police and enforce PPE, workwear, hygiene standards, cleaning procedures and general housekeeping.
  • Carry out internal audits in compliance with company procedures and ensure actions are carried out by relevant departments.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation; amend accordingly and communicate all relevant policies/information.
  • Meet the companies Objectives and Key Results (OKR’s) through an agreed set of KPI’s.
  • Ensure compliance of the BRCGS programme for food packaging suppliers.
  • Maintain the HARM/HACCP process and ensure required auditors are trained.
  • Record, analyse and report all statistical information including raw materials testing results, cleaning, internal NCR’s, customer complaints, and audit results.
  • Support the General Manager with implementation of best practice quality systems.
  • Identify opportunities for improving quality/performance and communicate to relevant Manager.
  • Co-ordinate and support on-site audits conducted by external providers.
  • Visit customers to provide support when required and communicate appropriate information.
  • Support in the transition and implementation to ISO standards.
  • Ensure goods inwards sample testing on raw materials and finished products is carried out.
  • Communicate with customers and relevant departments regarding customer complaints and issues.
  • Support root cause analysis investigations and associated activities during corrective and preventative actions in relation to quality-related product issues.

THE PERSON

The ideal candidate will have quality management experience within a manufacturing background, preferably within the food industry. You need to have BRC audit experience in order to carry out this role. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and relationship building skills, with a proven track record in a similar role and relevant qualifications within quality management. Experience of leading, managing and developing people is essential.
