Working closely with the Head of Operations, you will be responsible for managing and keeping the production plan up to date, allocating work across the shop floor and monitoring progress against priorities and deadlines.
The role would particularly suit someone with experience in engineering, fabrication or CNC manufacturing who understands the importance of quality, workflow, safety and effective team coordination.
You do not need to be an established Production Manager to be considered. This is an opportunity for a capable individual with the right technical understanding, organisational skills and leadership potential to develop their experience, take on greater responsibility and build a long-term career within a growing manufacturing business.
THE ROLE
- Oversee day-to-day production activities, ensuring customer orders are manufactured safely, accurately, on time and to the required quality standards.
- Maintain and update the production plan established by the Head of Operations, ensuring priorities and deadlines are clearly communicated.
- Allocate work across the shop floor team in line with production requirements, customer priorities and available skills.
- Monitor production progress, output and workflow, identifying potential delays and taking action to resolve issues at an early stage.
- Ensure jobs are manufactured in accordance with technical drawings, specifications, bills of materials and relevant work instructions.
- Supervise and support a team of experienced fabricators, providing clear direction and maintaining high standards of performance and conduct.
- Communicate daily production priorities, schedule changes and potential delivery risks to the shop floor team.
- Work closely with the Head of Operations to highlight capacity issues, labour requirements, material shortages and any risks to customer delivery commitments.
- Liaise with Estimating, CAD/CAM, Procurement, Quality and Maintenance to resolve technical, material and production-related issues.
- Support the introduction of new and bespoke products, ensuring production requirements are understood and work is handed over effectively.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste and maintain consistent quality.
- Ensure health and safety procedures, housekeeping standards and safe working practices are followed throughout the production area.
- Support staff development, training and cross-training to improve flexibility and strengthen the wider production team.
- Help develop and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions and production processes.
- Monitor production performance and provide regular updates to the Head of Operations on progress, output, quality and operational challenges.
THE PERSON
- You will have a background in engineering, manufacturing, fabrication or a similar technical environment.
- Experience within CNC manufacturing, fabrication or engineering-led production would be particularly advantageous.
- You will have an understanding of how engineering components or fabricated products are manufactured and the importance of working to drawings and specifications.
- Previous experience supervising, leading or coordinating a production or shop floor team would be beneficial.
- You will be comfortable overseeing experienced fabricators, providing direction and maintaining high standards across the team.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate workloads, manage priorities and keep production moving.
- You will be confident maintaining and updating a production plan and communicating progress against agreed deadlines.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to identify potential production issues and take appropriate action.
- Good communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with shop floor employees, colleagues and senior management.
- An understanding of health and safety, quality standards and the importance of maintaining a clean and organised working environment.
- A continuous improvement mindset, with an interest in developing processes, improving efficiency and reducing waste.
- You will be approachable, reliable and motivated to develop your leadership and management capabilities.
- A willingness to learn, take ownership and embrace the development opportunities available within the role.
