Mechanical Trade Assistant - Undercarriage in Guildford

Reporting to the Undercarriage Manager, you'll join our South Guildford Workshop as part of a supportive team responsible for maintaining and rebuilding Caterpillar undercarriage components. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, learning new skills, and working with tools and machinery. Whether you come from a trade assistant, manufacturing, automotive, agriculture, warehousing, logistics, maintenance, or mechanical background, we'll provide training and support to help you build a long-term career with WesTrac. No previous experience working on Caterpillar undercarriage systems is required. We're looking for people with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

Roster: 5 days on, 2 days off (Monday to Friday) 2 weeks day shift 6:00am - 2:30pm 2 weeks afternoon shift 2:00pm - 10:30pm

What You'll Do:

• Our Undercarriage Repair Team specialises in the inspection, maintenance and restoration of critical Cat® undercarriage systems used in heavy machinery and tracked equipment.
• Working in a supportive team environment, you'll learn valuable skills while contributing to the quality and reliability of Caterpillar equipment used across mining, construction and infrastructure industries.
• Disassemble, inspect and rebuild Caterpillar undercarriage components.
• Work as part of a collaborative team to repair and restore components using established processes and quality standards.
• Operate welding equipment and machinery to complete repairs (training provided where required).
• Learn from experienced technicians in a supportive workshop environment.
• Work both indoors and outdoors as components move through various stages of the repair process.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised work area.
• Follow safety procedures and contribute to a positive safety culture.
• Contribute to a team that values respect, inclusion, continuous improvement and quality workmanship.

Skills & Experience:

• Commitment to safety and quality.
• Ability to work in a workshop environment.
• Reliable, motivated and willing to learn.

Highly Regarded:

• Forklift Licence.
• Experience in a workshop, manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, maintenance, automotive, agricultural, construction or trade environment.
• Welding experience.
• Dogging qualification.
