As a Digger & Drill Technician, you will be working across a range of customer mine sites in the Pilbara and Southwest on a FIFO/DIDO basis depending on site location. Take control of your schedule with flexible 8-10 day shut down/breakdown swings. You will be trusted to do what you do best: fault-find, diagnose, and keep critical equipment operating at peak performance.
About the Department
This position sits within WesTrac's newly established HMS & Drill Services team; a specialist group created for highly experienced tradespeople working at the premium end of heavy mining equipment. The role focuses exclusively on Heavy Mining Shovels and Drill Rigs, providing advanced aftermarket support, shutdown services, and technical solutions across major mine sites.
Location: FIFO from Perth - This position will be casual, ongoing shutdown work. You will also be working on a variety of rosters.
Hourly Rate: Up to $90 an hour - Dependent on skillset & experience
What you will do:
- Fault finding, diagnosis and maintenance on MD6200 up to MD6380 Drill Rigs and 6015 up to 6060 HMS
- Liaising directly with the customer, WesTrac and Caterpillar for all HMS technical product information, documentation, and continuous improvement concepts
- Proactively assist with preventative maintenance schedules, planning work scopes and troubleshooting.
- Technical reporting and product instruction/training strategies to improve Drills/HMS product knowledge to the wider work group.
- Accountable for increasing the all-around performance, reliability, and availability of the designated Drills/HMS product line.
Skills & Experience:
- HD Plant mechanic qualification/certification and an HR-Licence (required)
- Extensive post-trade experience, including Field Service exposure with Drills and/or Hydraulic Mining Shovels
- High level of competence on mobile hydraulic & low voltage electrical systems used in Hydraulic Mining Shovels
- Demonstrated understanding of the HMS machine application on site, optimum operation knowledge
- Ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a team & lead customer work groups onsite, instruct/teach & knowledge share
- HMS commissioning and hydraulic tune-up experience
